Dear Friends

Tsunami !
Over 1,00,000 dead.
You have seen images of the impact on T.V. You have read enough about it.
What do you do ?

We can’t do anything for those who have died.
But the life is different for those who have survived.

Imagine a situation that from a family of four, you are the only one surviving with no house to stay and no food to eat. And you are in a place where even school and health for all is difficult, forget about any social security

In such conditions life is difficult. But you have to face it.
You can get help but still it is your struggle and you have to face it.

You have to come out of the shock of the death of your family members.
You have to face the reality of the total loss and yet start working to rebuild the life.
Rebuild your life and help those around you to do the same.

Friends, that is the spirit of life. There are people in Tsunami affected areas who lost everything, yet they were struggling to help others the very next moment. From whatever help they could get they were trying to help others who needed it more.

They are restoring human dignity. They are clear that they are not beggars. They have lost everything in this situation but not their human spirits.

Our humanist friends working in these areas are engaged in working with people supporting this challenging attitude. Yes, the immediate need was medicine, food, clothes etc. We provided that. But now we are working to strengthen the spirit of rebuilding the life.

In the ten villages that we are working we have developed team of over 200 local affected residents who are now geared up to take charge.

We begin with a small yet concrete proposal – to build a community hall for education of small children and joint projects of women as well as the community. The material will be supplied from the monetary support contributed by well-wishers and the labour will be provided by these volunteers free. Once they are involved in making their facility, it is theirs. Not charity. They are accepting support for what they do not have. But for the labour, it is theirs and is contributed self-lessly for common welfare.

Then onwards we propose to work together. To re-establish their normal lives and even to make it better. It could be projects in areas of health, education and quality of life.

It is not that we are givers and they are beggars. Rather we are working together. It is an act of destiny that brings us closer human-to-human and we all get an opportunity to contribute in making better life.

Afterall our lives have a meaning. Let us make it – to work to build a better world.

It is a great joy to be to be part of this project and we all feel it as a privilege.

You are welcome to join these spirits.

To work together to build a better world – not only when Tsunami strikes. But every day and every moment. That makes our lives worth living.

Regards
Humanist friends from India
